Prof. Yong Geol Kim Commemorates the Sewol Ferry Sinking by Presenting a Ballet Performance, "Light, Silence, and …"

 

  

Professor Yong Geol Kim of the School of Dance, former Soloist at Paris Opera Ballet, staged a ballet performance "Light, Silence, and..." that he had choreographed and directed daily from 16 to 18 April at Dance Theater in the Arko Arts Theater.

  

Since its premiere in September 2014, it is the third time after 2015 that Kim presented this performance to the audience to commemorate the victims of the Sewol Ferry disaster, which occurred on the morning of 16 April 2014 and killed 304 passengers including 248 high school students.

 

Including Seung-Hyeon Lee, Nineteen members of the crew of Kim Yong-Geol Dance Theater performed in this work. About the work, professor Kim noted, “I wanted to talk about our past, present, and future from the tragedy that must not recur ever again.” The work attempts to evoke the audience to contemplate the value and meaning of freedom, justice, and democracy through the dance movements.
