Three K-Arts Musicians Won First at the JoongAang Music Concours

Jiyoung Kim, Youbien Lee, Youngkwang Oh Win 1st Prizes at the 47th JoongAng Music Concours

At the 47th JoongAng Music Concours that lowered the curtain last March 31st, Jiyoung Kim, Youbien Lee, and Youngkwang Oh earned 1st prizes for the Violin, Cello, and Male Voice, respectively. Kim and Lee are current students in graduate and undergraduate programs, and Oh is a graduate of the School of Music.

Joongang Ilbo, one of the pioneering media companies in Korea, has held this classical music competition since 1975. Internationally renowned musicians as pianist Dajin Kim (former Dean of School of Music at K-Arts), soprano Sumi Jo and many are from this competition. This year, 577 participants competed in the seven categories. As there were no winners in Flute, Composition, and Female Voice, the winners came out from four out of seven categories. And three wins by our students were indeed a notable accomplishment.

“Jiyoung Kim’s playing was stable from beginning to end. Kim well played the characteristics of every movement of the piece,” commented a violin jury, Choon Soo Chung, an emeritus professor of Kyung Hee University.
