Son Jihoon and Soparno Sarah Yang Places 1st and 2nd at
the 17th Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition
Tenor Son Jihoon
(32 years old), Department of Vocal Music, and soprano Sarah Yang (30 years
old), Department of Vocal Music, took the 1st and 2nd places at the 17th
Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition, Spain, on 7 November.
Tenor Son, the
winner of 1st prize and a special prize, sang Gioacchino Rossini’s opera,
“Longing for a Beautiful Woman,” in L’italiana in Algeri in the final. Soprano
Sarah Yang presented Charles Gounod’s opera piece, Romeo and Juliette, “Ah! I
Want to Live in the Dream!”
Son Jihoon
recently won the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Italy
and has continued his musical career in Europe. In the School of Music, he
studied with Prof. Yang Hee-jun. Sarah Yang signed as the permanent soloist at
the Antwerp Theatre in Belgium in 2023. In the School of Music, she studied
with Prof. Song Kwang-sun. The Montserrat Caballé International Singing
Competition is an international music competition named after Spanish soprano
Montserrat Caballé founded herself, hoping to establish a foothold for the
young talents of the next generations to advance to the global stage.
