Prof. Ahn Duck-ki Gains the Grand Prize at the 43rd Seoul Dance Lab

 

Professor and Korean Dancer Ahn Duck-ki of the School of Dance Gains the Grand Prize at the 43rd Seoul Dance Lab

  

Prof. Ahn Duck-ki (School of Dance) seized the Grand Prize at the 43rd Seoul Dance Lab which ended on Sunday, 27 November 22 at the Arko Arts Theater. In addition, Yoon Hyejin (24 years old) enrolled in the MA program at the School of Dance earned the Best Dancer Award in the female section. 

  

The Seoul Dance Lab arranged by the Korea Dance Association originated from the Dance Festival Korea in 1979. As one of the key dance festivals, the festival contributes to the advancement of dance in Korea and presents the audience the dances across all genres such as ballet, traditional, modern, and contemporary dances. It is, furthermore, wide open to the general public in addition to professional dancers.

 

In the competition section, Prof. Ahn garnered praise and owned the glory of winning the Grand Prize with his “The Ocean Is, To Me” choreographed by the Ahn Duck-ki Movement Research Lab. Prof. Ahn noted, “I choreographed the piece from the rising question and curiosity about what the ocean is, what it means to us. It alludes to the contrasting nature of the ocean, such as its dangerousness and fearfulness at the same time as productivity and sensitivity.”
